Prepare some questions to ask the interviewer
- Can I know more about the structure of the department?
- How does the position become vacant?
- Who will I report to in the department and will I have any subordinates?
- How will you assess my performance?
- Any advice / encourage is given to undertake further study?
Prepare a checklist of what to bring with you before attending an interview
- Contact details & Map (office location, name and phone no. of the contact person).
- Resume and application form.
- Relevant documents or materials (reference letters, certificates, photo, etc.).
- Pen and notepaper.
- Mobile phone (Remember to switch off during interview).
- List of questions to ask the interviewer.
- Watch and tissues.
During interview
- Dress code (Dress neatly and appropriately. Your dress code reflects the business image you wish to project).
- Arrive early (Arrive at the company not less than 5 minutes; but not more than 15 minutes).
- Switch off your mobile phone.
- Body language (Sitting and standing posture must be confidently and appropriately).
- Smile & Handshake (Relaxed and confident smile with good eye contact and firm handshake).
- Listen carefully to the questions from the interviewers. Do not rush to answer the question, think before you speak.
- Answer the question briefly and informatively.
- Be positive (Avoid any negativity in conversations and body language. Interviewers are expecting to look for positive and pleasant employee with energetic and enthusiastic attitude).
- Remember not to ask about the remuneration package during the first interview. If you are asked about your salary expectation, try to give as general as you can until you know that they want to make an offer to you.
- Close the interview (Firm handshake, good eye contact and relaxed smile will make a positive last impression to the interviewers).
After interview – Follow up is important
Send a thank you or follow-up letter to the employer to express your interest about the job.
- To express your interests about the position.
- Follow-up / questions you might still have about the position.
- Address any points that did not go so well in the interview.
- Try to ask for feedback if possible.
